Biography

Karolin Giselle Luna was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and is affectionately known as Luna or Karo by her close friends and family.  At the age of 6, she moved with her family to sunny Miami, Florida where she spent most of her childhood.

Karolin is the oldest of three children and one amongst a large, tight knit, Hispanic family.  She began at an early age to entertain by performing skits and dances for her family during gatherings and parties. At the age of 11, she co-wrote and starred in her first home-made film, “Bad Boys” alongside her younger brother and cousin. It was not long before entertaining became part of her soul.

Karolin found her love for dancing during her high school years. She participated in several dance ensembles and went on to become a member of her High School’s elite Kick Line Dance Team. She would perform at pep rallies and football games for hundreds and went on to travel around Florida competing in state and regional competitions. Dancing turned out to be just another way Karolin could satisfy her hunger for entertaining and bringing enjoyment and happiness to others. She continued to dance well into college where she earned the title of Co-Captain during her Sophomore year.

It wasn’t until her Junior year in college that Karolin decided to pursue her dream of entertaining through film and theatre. During the summer of 2002, Karolin auditioned for a local talent agency in North Miami and she began taking classes and workshops to sharpen her skills. That fall she auditioned for the national talent competition Best New Talent and was accepted to participate. The competition would take Karolin to Los Angeles to compete with hundreds of other hopefuls to be discovered in the “City of Angels.”

In December of 2003, Karolin graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration. Although fueled with a desire to begin her career, Karolin decided to pack her bags and head for Los Angeles to pursue her first love: Acting. Within months of her move to Los Angeles, Karolin was discovered and signed by a manager and shortly following, a talent agency.

Karolin first took to a live stage in fall of 2004 when she became a member of Alhambra’s Lizard Theatre Company. There she participated in several original works and popular favorites such as Neil Simon’s “Last of the Red Hot Lovers” and “The Road to RMI.” She has also had the great opportunity to work with award winning director Layon Gray in his critically acclaimed “Diary of a Catholic School Dropout,” where she starred as the troubled youth “Number Six”.

Theatre soon paved the way for film work as she began to work with independent film makers and student film makers. In her debut student film “Parting Gift,” she starred as a distressed teenager who faces pregnancy at 16 and has to face the consequences of her actions. Recently, she starred as the mischievous and seductive “Envisage” in Ever Winter’s Pictures “Blind Date,” which is scheduled to begin the festival circuit in 2008. She has also starred in Ever Winter’s Pictures “The Control of Butch Millock” as the dangerous and manipulative assassin, “Stryder”. Karolin currently wrapped filming her first Feature film, "Pedro" - based on the life of Pedro Zamora from the Real World San Francisco.  She will portray Rachel Campos, one of Pedro's Real World roommates.  "Pedro" is set to premiere at Sundance 2009.

Karolin has also appeared in several televised commercials including those for The Florida Lottery and Safeway Supermarkets. You may currently see Karolin featured  in the PEPSI "Magnetic Attraction" commercial starring Justin Timberlake, which made it's international debut on SuperBowl Sunday 2008.

Currently, Karolin is studying under Chris Holder of the Ivana Chubbuck Studios.

Her hope is to create work that inspires those who enjoy the beauty of film. She would like to thank her loving family and friends who have believed in her since her first step in this direction.
